Call out your close calls.

Right now, they city doesn’t have a good way to track “near misses", those moments where you aren’t hit, but it sure felt like you would be, or it took some deft maneuvering to avoid a collision. It’s even worth noting those parts of the city where you didn’t have a close call, but you did think to yourself “Well, this is a crash waiting to happen.” We hope DPW will add a way to bring this data into the GIS (tracking complaints along with location information so it’s available as part of the information engineers look when they make design decisions) but we wanted to start collecting and sharing information now, which might help us prevent more deaths.

  • "I cannot reach the button to request a walk signal; If I'm by myself, I cannot safely get my wheelchair to a position where I can get the right of way. If they don't see me on time, I'm hit. I've had two close calls. "
